About Us
What is an independent insurance agent?
An independent agent works for you, not for a single insurance company. We represent multiple top-rated carriers and shop your coverage across all of them to find the best combination of price and protection — at no extra cost to you.
How much does it cost to use an independent agent?
Nothing. Our compensation comes from the insurance carriers, not from you. You pay the same premium you would pay buying direct — but you get a real person advocating for you and shopping the market every renewal.
Where is Miller Insurance Agency located?
Our office is at 120 19th St N, Suite 2019, Birmingham, AL 35203 — in downtown Birmingham. We serve clients all across Alabama, and you can reach us at 256.936.4MIA (4642) or info@milleragents.com.
What are your office hours?
Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm Central. We're closed weekends, but we have an after-hours claims line and email is always monitored for urgent issues.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in downtown Birmingham and serve clients all across Alabama — from Huntsville to Mobile, Tuscaloosa to Auburn, and everywhere in between. If you're in Alabama, we can help.
How often should I review my insurance?
We re-shop your policies at every renewal automatically, and we recommend a sit-down review any time your life changes — new home, new car, marriage, baby, teen driver, or a meaningful change in income or assets.
Quoting
How long does it take to get a quote?
Most quotes take less than ten minutes. Submit the short form on our quote page and a licensed agent will follow up by phone or email — usually the same business day, often within an hour.
Switching
Will switching carriers leave me without coverage?
Never. We coordinate the start date of your new policy to begin the moment your old one ends, so there is no gap. We also handle the cancellation paperwork with your prior carrier so you don't have to.
Home Insurance
How much home insurance do I actually need in Alabama?
Enough to fully rebuild your home at today's Alabama construction prices, plus coverage for your belongings (typically 50-70% of your dwelling limit) and at least $300,000 of liability. We'll walk you through it line by line — most homeowners are either underinsured or paying for coverage they don't need.
Saving Money
Does bundling home and auto really save money?
Almost always. Most carriers offer 10-25% off when you bundle home and auto, and bundling often qualifies you for richer coverage like accident forgiveness and lower deductibles. We'll show you the side-by-side numbers before you decide.
Life Insurance
What's the difference between term and whole life insurance?
Term life covers you for a set period (typically 10-30 years) at a low fixed rate — perfect for income replacement while you have a mortgage or kids at home. Whole life lasts your entire lifetime and builds cash value, but costs 5-15x more. For most families, term is the right answer.
Renters Insurance
What does renters insurance cover?
Three things: your stuff (clothes, electronics, furniture) if it's stolen or destroyed, your liability if someone gets hurt in your apartment, and the cost of a hotel if your unit becomes uninhabitable. All of it usually runs $12-25 per month.
Umbrella
What is umbrella insurance and do I need it?
Umbrella adds an extra layer of liability protection — typically $1 million or more — on top of your home and auto policies. If you own a home, have teenage drivers, or have meaningful assets to protect, an umbrella policy is one of the best dollar-for-dollar buys in insurance.
Commercial Insurance
Do you write commercial insurance?
Yes — commercial lines is one of our three core practice areas alongside personal lines and life. We help Alabama businesses with general liability, commercial property, business auto, workers' compensation, professional liability, and BOPs. Get in touch and we'll tailor a program to your operations.
Claims
Can you help me file a claim?
Absolutely. Call us first — before the carrier — and we'll walk you through what to document, file the claim with you, and follow up with the adjuster on your behalf until it's resolved. That's what an independent agent is for.
